“One of those sensational events which occur from time to time took place on Saturday afternoon last, when a rumor gained currency in town that an elderly man, well known in the district, named John Bartlett, had committed suicide by hanging himself in a paddock adjacent to Aldershot Farm. Sergeant Hicks was informed of the occurrence, and on proceeding to the spot found the unfortunate man’s body lying on the ground, covered with ants, and presenting altogether a sickening spectacle.”
